impossibilities update: who needs a ladder?

Me.  That’s who.

The problem is how to get the ladder here.

It’s a ladder I want to borrow from my next door neighbor.  And while my neighbor is next door, the ladder is not.  It’s currently living at a property they own and manage.  Not too far.  But just far enough …

It won’t fit in any of our cars … and I don’t think I could convince my husband to “walk it” over here with me.  Truthfully, I’m not too crazy about that idea either.  Something tells me that a very large ladder will be a very large and heavy ladder …

I’m not above “bribing” my neighbor’s landscapers to get it over here.  Problem is, they run a snow removal business in the winter.  And there is currently snow to be removed in Chicago.

So now I’m thinking I may not even need a ladder to paint this, my “Imagine the Impossibilities” challenge I set forth …

You see, I have the Long Arm extension pole.  It extends like 15 feet.

And I bought this attachment for it …

See?  See there.  Look closer …

I can attach my paintbrush to it … and it angles too.  A full 270 degrees to boot.

Though the assembly may be my undoing …

So who needs a ladder?  Not me, that’s who …*

...and now you all must be thinking I’m certifiable …

Ladies (and gentlemen), the “Imagine the Impossibilities” challenge deadline is looming ...

The multi-blog link party goes live on January 31 ...

I'm feeling the pressure more than any of you.  As one of the hosts, it would send the wrong message if I didn't tackle my impossibility ....

And the link party is going to be a “progressive” party.  You know, like those progressive dinners?  You’ll link up here and I’ll give you links to the other 5 fabulous “Impossibilities” bloggers … and you link up there ...

Oh, and did I mention that all six of us hosts are going to pick out our individual five favorites?  And then we will each – all six of us – run a “features” post about them the following week …

So be sure to stop by and check out their progress and share your impossibilities ...

  2. This looks like the tool for me!
One of my upcoming projects includes painting our stairway wall and I had no idea (beyond hiring someone) how I would reach the highest part of the wall. Hope this works for you!

    1. I'll keep you posted! An extension pole .... and a glass of wine ... helped me tackle my very own stairway crazy!

  3. Start bicep curls and tricep dips now -you're arms are going to be killing you holding that thing over your head for hours! On the bright side, you'll have the best arms on the block!

  4. I painted my 17' stairwell using a $15.00 extension painting pole and a variety of Shur Line's ceiling and trim edgers. It was terrifying, but it got the job done! Best of luck!

    1. I did a similar thing in my stairwell. The memory is still fresh so that's why I was thinking ladder this time ... oh well. I dig in tomorrow!

  5. I'll assume Utah is too far to come for our ladder...but if you're in the area you are more than welcome to it (and that lunch we owe you). It's just hanging in the garage... http://www.theroosterandthehen.com/confessions-of-a-yard-sale-junkie/

  6. Give it a try without the ladder first. What's the worst that happens? It's only paint. :)

    1. That's my plan Jean ... Today is all about taking some "before" shots of the room. Tomorrow I'll be breakout out the extension pole. And then Wednesday I might find myself renting a truck from Home Depot ... and perhaps some scaffolding!

  7. Ohhh that gives me hope I might be able to get rid of the purple trim paint above the stairs. I think it's about 20 ft up or something obnoxious like that. It's high.

  12. Dear Lord! You are a better woman than me to consider that without a ladder.

Might I suggest icy-hot for your arms and neck?

  13. Let me know how it works we have high ceilings to entail a ladder with a plank over some high stairs.

  14. I have a ladder for you... but I'm all the way in Cali! Can't wait to see the way the new tool works out for you.

  15. Seriously. I wish I had know about that when I was ducktaping a paintbrush to a broom handle to try to reach the top over the stairs. Why didn't I think of this? You go girl!

  17. I have a ladder you could borrow but your ceilings look huge...I'm not sure it would be tall enough. Still, looks like you've already come up with a good alternative - good luck with it!

  19. That is going to be one very heavy paintbrush! I wish you success and admire your guts!

I was originally planning on creating a very "Imagine the Impossibilities" challenge post. My challenge? Baking pretzels! However life always seems to get in the way and actually threw me a much more "Impossibly Possible" challenge! Along with it came the need to renovate our whole home in only 9 months! Feel free to check out my first post on the subject as I unveil the surprise and the journey that goes along with it!

  20. We have cathedral ceilings in all rooms except kitchen, baths and hall. A 12 foot tall and HEAVY folding ladder is what we use. But we're in CT. Not like we do it often, that roller with extension, paint, etc. will be heavy!! Got scaffolding on clearance and still haven't done the rooms again....traumatizing. Sorry, just being real. Best wishes.
