… and I’m crossing my fingers because I’d prefer not to be part of a certain MTV reality series …
I figure … at a minimum … hearing someone call me those words is at least a decade away. And if our kids decide to follow our lead and wait until they’re in their 30’s to have kids? Then I’m looking at more like fifteen to twenty.
So as I linger in that twilight between being a mom to a tween and a teen and being a grandma, I live vicariously through my sister-in-law and her adorable grandchildren.
Two of which are doll-like tow heads living in a spacious new home in the burbs. A home complete with their own circular play room. A circular play room screaming out for a chalkboard table and chairs for two.
I had been on the hunt for the perfect table to refinish at my favorite Salvation Army for a few months now …
… swinging by once or twice a week …
And when I ran into our school crossing guard there last month? You got it. I mentioned what I was looking for … and now I had a second pair of eyes on the hunt for me.
And when she passed along a message to my husband on Monday that she spotted a little circular table for a mere $5? You got it again. I raced right on over and scooped it up …
Clearly this little table has seen more than its fair share of play dates. But that’s okay. The table and the chairs – Pottery Barn chairs that my not quite so tow heads have outgrown – will be getting a good cleaning, sanding, and some new paint ….
… and then they’ll be ready for some new play dates out in the burbs.
And now the race is on … the race to see if I actually finish this project before I have grandkids of my very own …

I LOVE a good find! I also found a good one (at GW) this week. Will be redoing sometime soon. But mine was a whole $11.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it weird to be that mom of older kids. Thats when I find all fun things and projects for toddlers. But I have a great nephew who is 4. And I think he needs a project table :)
ReplyDeleteNow I'm on the hunt for a small table. Time to put the word out. :). But I'm like u....let's pray it's for him and not grand kids of my own.
Have you done chalk paint? I'm on a mission to do it soon. But not annie Sloan, I'm goin to make my own. Gasp!
It's not so bad being a Grandma until the day you realize you are living with a Grandpa! Hope that day is a long, long way off for you. That table and chair set is going to be adorable.

Haha, awesome, Linda!
ReplyDeleteI just donated my girls little table! But I kept the cute little chairs - can't part with them!

Those chairs are so cute and the table is a great find!
ReplyDeleteCute! I found the cutest little table for my granddaughters, and I am looking for another sweet chair to go with it. I have 2 but need another. Hope I find one for $5!
ReplyDeleteBTW-once you get used to the idea that someone is calling you Grammy-who me? Ha!- it is one of the most special things EVER!
You did it again...finding that perfect piece "for a song"....So hopefully the "grandkids" will be singing many songs at the beautiful table in the burbs....I am so looking forward to what you will be doing to that cute set of chairs and table...Do I see a MacKenzie Childs inspiration?...
ReplyDeleteThis year I am the same age both my grandmas were when I was born, which freaks me out. Friends from high school are grandmas already--which also freaks me out. I think I was so busy being a mom to young ones, I didn't notice time passing. Now they are bona fide teens, which has given me some time to look up, and...I'm seeing that I'm in a different demographic now!
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving me something to look forward to, a time when I can once again immerse myself in all things small and cute and fun. (But not for awhile!)
I know you will do a grand makeover and they will truly thank their aunt for it.
ReplyDeleteUh oh. I think you might have just cursed yourself. Grandkids in 5...4...3....
ReplyDeleteCute table!
It's going to be perfect! Plus, maybe your sister in law will be out of small grandchildren mode once (a long time from now) you are ready to enter!
