It put a pall on the happiness of summer.
But there’s a week left! For us, anyway. Some of our kids’ friends and my coworkers’ kids’ have started school already, and we should celebrate the fact that our kids have another week to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING if they want. Which they might.
But here’s a telling sign of the fall’s mini-apocalypse: In April, Molly wanted our large inflatable pool up RIGHTNOW, because we had enjoyed an odd warm spring. We waited, but then it went up in June. She enjoyed it a few times, and Linda told me we should probably just take it down before (shudder) Labor Day because the kids would be done with it before then.
Nonsense, I thought. As the kids probably thought, that was years away.
So this weekend, I skimmed it again, preparing it for Moll and her friend who, sadly, never jumped in. It was 90 and sunny! No splashing? Really? She was in fact done with the pool.
So I splashed.
So there.
Good for you !! Splash away dude!
ReplyDeleteWe start school next week too! We've been sadly done with all the Summery things for the past few weeks. We're getting our butts in gear tomorrow though and heading to the beach for one last hurrah!
ReplyDeleteAh, I'm so jealous you get to enjoy summer until the END... we've been back in school for weeks. I always get the last laugh, though -- kids skip on Friday so we can make a break for the beach. We'll be splashing, too. :)
ReplyDeleteLinda, I feel your pain~ when my kiddos were little I would cry the night before school! I loved playing with them all summer!
ReplyDeleteMake sure you take lots of pictures... kids tend to grow up so fast!
What no speedo shot?
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
I'm with Bliss. I was waiting for that.
ReplyDelete:) Our pool came down early this year and is already packed away. Makes me sad - makes summer really feel over. But the girls weren't swimming in it and it sat there and got rather green. So green I didn't want to splash in it! So away it went. and I know come october I will be glad it's already a done deal!
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel. When we moved from Chicago to California we bought a house with a pool. A pool(!), I thought. My kids will love it! They'll swim every day! Yeah, not so fast... it's funny how kids start taking stuff like that for granted.
ReplyDeleteAnd if it's any consolation, my kids went back last week. I *wish* we started after Labor Day!!
I feel the same way! School started yesterday and I'm so confused, isn't this supposed to be the final week of summer?
ReplyDeletea good splash is just as good as a good laugh! way to go!
ReplyDeleteWe started school 2 1/2 weeks ago...so lame! Splash on!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Way to enjoy that pool!
ReplyDeleteWe have an above-ground pool too, and I had big dreams of sunning with a magazine, then cooling in the pool, then drying off in the sun again, and repeating this for hours.
ReplyDeleteApparently I forgot I have small children. That happened once, for 30 minutes.
Splash away, no kids required! :)
